10/10/2011 – BBC Radio Manchester goes Live from Media City, Salford
The first live transmission from BBC Radio Manchester’s brand new Headquarters, Quay House in Salford Quays was successfully broadcast on Saturday morning (8th October 2011).
The new facilities include three large, custom designed radio studios overlooking the Central Piazza at Media City, UK which is set to become the home of BBC Breakfast and Match of the Day and provide regular programmes to Radio 5Live network.
Quay House is the largest IDS network installation to date and consists of a number of sub-systems delivering IDS applications to the BBC Manchester Radio and TV studios, Radio5 studios and BBC Sports.
The are over 160 networked IDS devices, providing the studios, newsrooms and associated areas with critical information including NTP referenced clocks, tally lights, status alerts, CCTV video streams, visual noise level warnings and switchable channel branding (which enables all the displays to be instantly rebranded).
The project also makes good use of some of our new products – our PoE SQ interfaces, which provide noise level metering, IR control and extended GPI/O capabilities, and our 9” desktop touchscreen units which enable users to control IDS functions locally.
Prime contractors IPE Systems, are responsible for the provision of all radio studios in both the BBC North MCUK project and the second phase of the Broadcasting House refurbishment in London. IDS is being installed in both locations, providing a flexible and dynamic, control and information system.
Other IDS installations on the MediaCity UK campus include the BBC Radio 6 Music studios at Dock House and the TV studio block for Peel Media.
04/10/2011 – IDS receives Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award at IBC 2011
IBC 2011 was a great event for us with many visitors and lots of interested discussion, but the highlight of the show was receiving a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award for Innovative Technology.
As one of the industry’s longest running product technology awards it represents a real acheivement, especially since the judges are independent and make their selections based on criteria including a products potential for technical and financial improvements.
The editors and publishers of Broadcast Engineering are excluded from the voting and selection process, ensuring the winners really do represent outstanding achievement in the eyes of a group of people who are actively involved in making TV.
We’re absolutely thrilled with the award and see this as a real endorsement of what IDS can do. Thank you to the judges and to all the visitors who make IBC the event it is.
A special feature on all the IBC 2011 Pick Hit winners will appear in the November issue of Broadcast Engineering World Edition magazine.
